TERMS & CONDITIONS:

In consideration for your completing a registration form to the Scottsboro BBQ Festival, I, the registered contestant or parent/guardian, intending to be legally bound, hereby for myself, executors and administrators, waive and release any and all rights and claims for damages against the sponsors, promoters, City of Scottsboro, Jackson County and its officials, Scottsboro Community Events, Inc., and all other persons associated with this event or otherwise. The officials of the Scottsboro BBQ Festival reserve the right to remove entrants, spectators, or anyone, on the basis of objectional behavior, failure to comply with rules or any other reason. I also agree photos, including, but not limited to, myself, team, food, equipment, etc., can be used in print or digital media for promotional purposes. I, the registered contestant or parent/guardian have read the above statement and waiver and do agree to abide by its terms and the terms of the event. I further understand that the decision of the judging, when applicable, is final. I acknowledge the event will be held rain or shine and I will not be refunded my entry fee or payment associated with any entry to any activity.

• Vendor Fee: $45 Merchandise OR $75 Food/Drink by July 31 or $65/$95 after Aug. 1st. On-site registration not permitted.

• Non-Profit Vendors may register through the form below. You will be contacted with instructions to make your non-profit vendor payment in the amount $25. There is not an online payment option on this site for non-profit vendors. All non-profit vendors must be approved by the BBQ committee. Non-profits may be required to show proof of non-profit status, such as a copy of a 501(c)(3), etc.

• Set-Up Time: All vendors must be set-up and open no later than 9am and remain open until 4pm. Food Vendors must remain open from 9am-4pm, unless otherwise allowed by organizer.

• All vehicles must be parked in designated areas no later than 8:30am

• Vehicle re-entry will only be allowed after 4:30pm through designated areas, as directed by event organizers. This is for the safety of attendees at the festival. No vendor shall move or relocate cones, barricades, etc.

• Spaces: One space is equal to a 15x15 area. All requests for specific spaces considered, however, we cannot guarantee a specific location.

• Extra Spaces: If more than one space is needed, please call to verify availability (second fee required.)

• Merchandise should be of the new/art/craft/antique/collectible/vintage merchandise type or food/drink vendor.

• Direct Sales/Food vendors MUST call to verify space PRIOR to mailing form and payment.

• If Direct Sales/Food vendors mail form without verifying space, your entry will be returned and partially refunded.

• The vendor is responsible for all tables, tents, power, water, etc. (we cannot accommodate power or water access.) If using a generator, please understand that the generator must be 70dB or less.

• Vendors are responsible for necessary permits, licenses, taxes, as regulated by local, state, & federal law.

• Non-Sales/Business Booths: Businesses/Organizations that would like to set up at the BBQ Festival with a booth for promotional purposes without merchandise that meets the requirements above must pay for a sponsor booth. Minimum sponsorship level is $100. Please visit the Sponsors page to register. Please do not register as a vendor on this page. Any registrations submitted that do not meet these requirements will not be accepted, additionally, any payment received in the amount of a vendor payment will be credited toward a sponsorship level or refunded minus 5% due to PayPal processing fees. Thank you for understanding!

• Refunds: This event is held rain or shine. The BBQ committee is not responsible for refunding any money paid to be a vendor. If a refund is requested prior to Aug. 1, you will receive a refund minus 5% due to PayPal processing fees. No refunds will be issued after July 31.

Backyard BBQ Competition



REGISTRATION FOR THE 2023 FESTIVAL IS NOW OPEN

• Entry fee per team is $150 if paid by Aug. 31 $175 after Sep. 1.
• Sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society and Alabama Barbecue Association.

• Check-In Times: Friday, Oct. 13 6pm-8pm OR Saturday, Oct. 14 6am-7am.

• All contestants must attend a mandatory meeting Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7:30am.

• Meat must be cooked on site wood, charcoal or wood pellets are acceptable (See KCBS rules for details).

• Two categories: Ribs and Chicken (contestants must participate in both).

• Entries will be judged on appearance, taste, and texture (KCBS Cooking & Judging Rules apply).

• Contestant must provide meat, power, water and any necessary supplies and equipment.

• If using a generator, please understand that the generator must be 70dB or less.

• If a contestant wishes to be a vendor, a vendor fee will be required. No contestant shall vend food or merchandise unless authorized. Contestants may also enter People’s Choice (see below.)

• Judging begins at 4pm (Chicken due at 4pm, Ribs due at 4:30pm). Awards announced at 6pm.

• Trophies awarded to Grand Champion, Reserve Grand, and 1st/2nd/3rd place finishers in each category.

• Prize money: Grand Champion ($700), Reserve Grand ($500), Payout to top five winners of each category as follows: 1st ($300), 2nd ($250), 3rd ($200), 4th ($150), 5th ($125).

• Ages 6-12 years old must grill a burger.

• Contestant must meet age requirement at time of contest on October 14, 2023.

• Meat will be provided to each contestant. Contestants are responsible for shaping and seasoning meat. Grills will be provided or you may bring your own (charcoal only, no exceptions.)

• Each contestant is required to have at least one adult present at all times. Adults will tend the heat source, handle knives and check meat for doneness only.

• Adults may not help shape, season, grill or garnish the burger.

• Contestants are required to provide lighting agent, matches/lighter, utensils, seasoning/marinade, water and garnish if desired. It is the responsibility of the adult to maintain a clean and safe environment.

• Entry fee is $25 per contestant. Parent/Guardian must complete entry form.

• There is a strict limit of 30 contestants registration is due by October 6, 2023. Space is given on a first-come, first-served basis. On-site registration available if space allows.

• Check-In 9:30am, Start Grilling 10:00am, Burgers Due 11:15am, Awards 1:30pm.

People's Choice Competition



REGISTRATION FOR THE 2023 FESTIVAL IS NOW OPEN

• Contestants may choose to enter the meat (Boston Butt) category or dessert category.

• Entry fee is $40 per contestant per category. Contestants may enter both categories.

• Must prepare enough meat/dessert to allow for up to 300 samples in 2oz. cups. Sauce on meat is optional. This will equal approximately two large Boston Butts. Contestants provide their own meat/ingredients.

• Meat & desserts must be cooked off-site. No cooking will be allowed at the event for People’s Choice.

• Tables will be provided, along with 2oz. sample cups. Gloves (provided) will be required by all contestants. Contestants are responsible for food safety and maintaining a sanitary area when prepping sample cups.

• Contestants may dress in a fun theme or decorate their area within their allocated space.

• Setup & Registration: 12:00pm-12:45pm. Serving: 1:00pm-2:00pm. Awards at 3:00pm.

• Trophies or Medals awarded to 1st/2nd/3rd place finishers in each category.

• Prize money: 1st Place $175, 2nd Place $125, 3rd Place $100, Best Decorated $50, Judge’s Choice Meat $50 and Judge’s Choice Dessert $50.

• $20 Registration Fee Per Team (Two Persons Per Team).

• Standard Double Elimination Format with a maximum number of 64 teams.

• Minimum age requirement is 15 years old to compete without an adult player.

• Players must be respectful and courteous.

• Any BBQ committee member or tournament director may disqualify and remove any person from the event at their discretion. A refund will not be allowed if a team is disqualified, fails to check-in or doesn’t compete.

• Check-In & Warm-Up from 12:00pm-1:30pm. Tournament starts at 2:00pm.

• Awards to 1st/2nd/3rd place finishers with Guaranteed Payouts to 1st-3rd: 1st - $150, 2nd - $80, 3rd - $50.

• All dogs are to be healthy and not to be considered dangerous. The committee reserves the right to ask any contestant to remove dogs deemed dangerous from the event.

• All dogs are required to have current vaccinations. Owner assumes all liability for his/her dog.

• Clean-up bags will be provided at the registration area. Owners must pick up and dispose of droppings.

• Water bowls will be provided on-site. You are welcome to bring your own water and container if you like.

• Check-In & Registration will be from 9:00am-11:30am at the bandstand on the north lawn of the square.

• The dog parade will begin at 12:00pm, with awards immediately following.

• Each dog will be walked by the contestant up and down the stage to be judged.

• Dogs will be judged in the category registered. You may enter multiple categories at $10 for the first category, plus $5 for each additional category per dog. Best in Show will be judged using cumulative scores from Cutest Dog, Best Behaved and Best Costume. All proceeds benefit Spay & Neuter Jackson County.

• Best in Show will be awarded a trophy and $100 cash. Top three finishers in each category will receive cash prizes: 1st - $75, 2nd - $50 and 3rd - $25. Medals will also be awarded to 1st-3rd.

Witches Ride/Walk

Presented by LuLu's Lunchbox & Boutique, on the Downtown Square.

Witches will ride or walk from LuLu's Lunchbox around the square and toss candy to kids. Proceeds will benefit a local charity. All registered witches will receive a t-shirt. Best-Dressed Witch receives a gift certificate.


• You must dress up as a witch and your bike or walk the square. Decorating your bike is encouraged. Only one rider per bike.

• You must be prepared to throw candy to kids around the square. If riding a bike, please have a way to safely carry and throw candy.

• Registration will be at LuLu's Lunchbox & Boutique from 1pm-2:30pm. All witches must check in at LuLu's by 2:30pm, even if you have registered online through the form below. LuLu's is located at 110 South Market Street, across from the Post Office.

• Entry fee is $35 per witch (riding or walking.)

• A Witches Ride t-shirt is included for all pre-registered witches. Witches registering at the festival will be provided a shirt while sizes last, but will be able to pick up a shirt from LuLu's in their size after the festival.

• Witches will receive one drink ticket to be used in the Beer Garden, redeemable for a beer (for those witches 21 years or older) or non-alcoholic beverage. Must present valid ID and wear wristband to consume alcohol.

• Payments for entry fee will be taken at LuLu's Lunchbox & Boutique the day of the festival.
